A palimpsest is a manuscript whose original text was scraped or washed away so the costly parchment could be reused for new writing. Multispectral imaging can bring that erased undertext back to legibility, often recovering older — and sometimes otherwise lost — works. This program at the Matenadaran, led by Prof. Dr. Jost Gippert, images such manuscripts with the MegaVision Archival & Cultural-Heritage Imaging system, capturing each page under visible, infrared and ultraviolet light; the resulting spectral bands are then processed and analysed with ENVI and Hoku to reveal the hidden layer.

Contributed on the Matenadaran side, in a contract capacity: multispectral image capture and processing, in-house tools for managing the digitization workflow, and the quality-control and ingestion pipeline that keeps the archive reliable (checksum verification, spectral-band completeness, duplicate detection).
